The airplane depicted in this short film is a C53 Skytrooper. On June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day, this actual plane, not a replica, flew 3 missions over enemy territory, carrying the brave young men of our “Greatest Generation”. Praise, Honor, and give thanks to them in your thoughts and prayers. The Commemorative Air Force, Inland Empire Wing, a non-profit organization, in Riverside, California maintains and fully operates aircraft of wars gone by. In their work, they help keep the memory alive of those who served our country and of those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we sometimes take for granted. Donate, sponsor, or volunteer at your local CAF wing. We need your support and it’s fun for the whole family!
Let’s take a look at the Commemorative Air Force’s Douglas C-53, the “D-Day Doll”. This iconic aircraft is a Normandy veteran and now resides in Riverside, California. She was flown back to France to drop paratroopers for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. A grateful thanks to the “D-Day Doll” crew: Steve Rose, Ben Clerx, and Mike Lindgren. They were very gracious with their time and did an excellent job sharing this amazing piece of world history with us!
