Why We Fly

The Commemorative Air Force-Inland Empire Wing (CAF-IEW) is a purely volunteer-driven Non-Profit organization. The members and volunteers dedicate their efforts to a variety of local projects, such as the maintenance and restoration of WWII aircraft, memorial flights at special events, contribution of museum displays to educate the public, and providing support and a presence at Southern California air shows.

The CAF-IEW was formed as the “Inland Empire Wing” of the CAF. Its hangar is located in Hanger “S” on 6936 Flight Road at the Riverside Municipal Airport in Riverside, California.

​The CAF-IEW’s hangar and WWII museum currently display a T-6 Harvard II, an L-4 “Scout”, a PT-22 “, and our C-53 Sky Trooper, “D-Day Doll

Flight FAQs

General Information

  • Seats available to book will be available soon for Spring flights for April 5th, 2025. A link to book will be added soon!

  • You must book your flight online, email, or call us at 714-451-2061. If we don’t answer, please leave your number and we will return your call ASAP. Our office hours are Tuesday – Friday 9am-5pm. During our evening flights we will forward our phone number to our cell phones in case you get lost on the way to the airport

  • Youth passengers must be six years old and up to ride.

  • When booking a flight, we will need your cell phone number and email so we can contact you if your flight is delayed or cancelled

  • Flights may be canceled for any reason including weather. We will make the call on the weather hopefully 24hrs before your flight. We will not compromise safety to complete a flight in bad weather. We may fly in overcast weather if the clouds are above our minimums, this is a decision of our professional pilots and staff. If you have any concerns, please call us or email.

  • Each C-53 flight holds 16 passengers and our crew of four. We may move flights around to fill a given flight. You will be notified if there is any change in your flight time

  • Our other planes will have one crew member (pilot) and one passenger

  • If you miss your flight and do not cancel 24 hours before your flight, your ticket will be void, as we expected you to show that evening and we may fly with an empty seat.

  • Please arrive 45 minutes prior to your scheduled flight so we may check you in, and sign our flight waiver

  • We reserve the right to cancel a flight for any reason. You will be rescheduled, and your ticket will not expire if we cancel your flight. If you can’t fly, we will refund your money.

  • The airplane is not heated or cooled, please dress accordingly

  • The airplane has two 1,200hp engines. These are loud, but we have installed insulation. If it is still too loud, we will provide hearing protection

  • You will sit in an original paratrooper style seat with a seatbelt. After takeoff you are free to get up and move around the airplane, look in the cockpit, and view the scenery out the windows

How Long are the Flights?

Flight Times vary by flight Experience purchased

Our DC-3 Flights are a 40 minute flight experience which breaks down as follows:

  • 5-10 minutes boarding

  • 5 minutes taxi to Runway

  • 20-25 minutes Airtime

  • 5 minutes taxi to terminal

  • 5-10 minutes unloading

If you would like a longer flight, please give us a call. Our C-53 is also available for rental for a private flight for your guests.

Do we need to Sign any paperwork prior to flying?

Yes we operate under FAA Rules for part 91 Scenic Flight Operators.

Your pilots are all commercial rated and experienced pilots. All operators and mechanics on the airplane are drug tested per FAA Rules under part 91.

As part of our agreement we ask that all of our passengers sign an agreement prior to boarding. Paperwork will be presented & completed at check pre-flight check-in.
